Default Soft Top Tray Rattle.

Searched on this topic for many months now, tried sticking firm foam between certain points and it decreased vibrations but did not eliminate them.

Any other tricks that don't involve me drilling holes or taking the tray completely loud.

My rattling is REALLY bad.

i kept trying to get mine to not rattle, tried the foam and everything...ending up just taking the whole thing out

But if you don't want to cut vents or take the tray out, I guess just drive with the top down all the time?

Some people have cut vents and then put mesh over it so you can barely tell it was cut. Would that work for you?

I have a 3.6 cubic ft ported enclosure with a Boston Acoustics SPG 555 in my S, running off a GT28 amplifier. I took the spare tire jack, put it under the tray, and slowly started jacking until sufficient pressure kept it from rattling. Worked for me. Good Luck.

Wrap a bunch of toothpicks or pieces of stiff wire in electrical tape and then shove them in the cracks around the lid. It's invisible and works decent. If the tray is flexing you may need glue 1/4" aluminum angle under it to keep it stiff. YMMV.

whats the problem with the tray that people complain about? im about to do a pretty big sub install so i want to fix this before hand.

is it the fact that the air pressure has no where to go so it flexs the tray and makes it rattle? so venting into the cabing through to plastic panels behind the seats fixes this?

thanks

Yes, sorta. As I stated earlier, I was pushing 1275 watts rms to a Boston SPG555 sub. In the end, I had to remove the setup (a costly failure) due to lack of airspace outside the enclosure, I went with less power and a smaller sub. To eliminate the rattling tray, I simply put the spare tire jack between the tray and car and lightly jacked the tray. Enough pressure by the jack and the tray stopped rattling almost completely. Free fix.

im goin to be having a 13.5" sub in the toolwell running off about 1200-1400rms. the box is going to be 1.3 cu ft sealed. do you think my sub will handle ok or will ther be the same lack of airspace that yours had?

I'll probably vent into the cabin somehow, as well as try your spare jack method.

thanks
