Sony Direct Wire Install/Programming {long}
Yes, you would still have functions 1 and 2 available, along with the new ones 12 and 13.
I have also been comtemplating a new mute mode. This mode would act as a function 'shift'. The mute button would no longer perform mute, but rather would choose from two 'banks' of functions. With mute off the Mode, CH, and Vol UP/DN buttons would all have one set of functions, but with mute on, the Mode, CH and Vol UP/DN buttons would have a different function. What do you think of this? This one is a bit more work as far as programming goes and would take me a bit of time, but it would be kind of cool.

A couple of people have asked me about AM reception. I'm afraid I don't have any info on this right now, but I do remember seeing some threads about this in the past. This is really a non-related issue that has to do with connecting aftermarket stereos, and isn't related to the DCU. I wish I had more time to help out on that, and I'll try to do some research on it, but I'd recommend searching through the old posts to find the answer. It has something to do with the antenna amp lead I believe. I never use AM, so I don't have any answers readily available. I'm surprised people still listen to AM.
Sime:
Sorry I missed your post. I'll answer now:
1. Well, I have had three reports of problems using functions 10 and 11, from Sime, Kacee and AusS2000. I don't know which screen name it is, but one of you is sending the unit to me to look at it so that I can determine the problem. I'll let everyone know as soon as I know what the issue is.
2. Scratchy audio at low volumes. This really sounds like a loose connection to a speaker to me. The DCU has no audio interface of any type, so it's really not possible for it to create any scratchy sounds to the speakers. Double check your speaker connections. If you are using an external amp it could also be a problem with your connections to the Amp. It is slightly possible that the head unit is picking up RF noise from the DCU. I'd recommend you don't mount the DCU right up against the head unit, but rather above the kick panel on the drivers side, that should eliminate any possibility of RF interference.
Everyone:
One other thing: If you want to ask me questions about the DCU or are having problems, please choose to use either the forum, OR e-mail to contact me, but not both. I just can't keep the conversations together and I can't remember who I am helping with what. Also, if you send an e-mail please use your FULL real name, AND your s2ki.com handle, because I can't tell from first names who is who. Thanks!

On the AM reception problem, the solution is to connect the dark blue (antenna power) lead from the head unit to the orange lead connected to pin 1 on the honda connector. This lead supplies power to the antenna amplifier when the radio is on.

Is there a wire in the male harness that plugs into pin 1 on the honda connector or do I have to put one in it to wire the antenna power lead?
S2Kman,
Tried to program the DCU with the car running...no luck...tried 4 times, each time when it started the check...the lights flashed back and forth...basically I can't get it to program while running.
Tried to reprogram with the car off...after several attempts the unit finally programmed. I had about 3 instances where I completed the program, it did a system check, lights flashed nine times, and then as I waited a minute or so, the headunit started cycling through the functions without touching any of the buttons...it would do this for about 30 sec. and then stop...I turn the ignition off and try the settings...the programming is all wacked.
Nevertheless, I got it programmed eventually, even started the car....no problems, everything 100%-no runaways on the CH button while playing a CD. Get up this morning, start the car and everthing is wacked....the headunit starts cycling through the source and seek functions without pushing any buttons. Got to work and reprogrammed in the parking lot (someone looks over at me with my hands under the dash....I open the door and yell "just programming my stereo"...they think I'm stealing this car HAHAHA)....the programming took OK, started the car...everything 100%. I will re-check at lunch to see if it still works...
checked the programming at lunch...same problem as before....car running/HU cycling between sources without pushing any buttons. Any other ideas?

I bought my DCU pre-wired to the Honda harness. And I already had a Pinky unit installed so I could compare the wiring. I don't think there is a lead in Pin 1 so you may have to move one from somewhere else. Can someone who hasn't installed theres yet confirm whether or not there is a lead (perhaps orange) in Pin 1, right next to the power (red) lead.?
