S2Kman,

Been away from the board for a few days and answered your email about the adapter fix before reading some of the updates on the site...I will wait for the adapter fix and re-try. If things are still not working, I will unplug and send you the entire harness and DCU for testing....lets see if the adapter will fix it first.

RE: THE 1/8" PLUG FIX

just wanted to share some info on what I did -

don't have a dremel tool, but figured I would give a go at filing the metal ring down on the 1/8" plug. I had two choices of file: a very good "diamond dust" nail file (yes, fingernail file ) and a big honking, manly industrial metal file (about 10-12 inches long). The larger file was obviously a little too much for the job and it would've been hard not to accidentally file something else while I was at it (radio, dash, shift knob, etc) so I opted for the nail file.

THAT METAL IS SOFT! When I realized the metal was soft enough to file with a nail file, I took my "professional" wire cutters and just snipped the ring down, taking care not to send shards of metal into the radio housing. I then filed the edges smooth and wiped to make sure no burrs that could come loose later.

Plug fits like a champ, DCU programmed correctly the first time

Yes, the metal is very soft. With a dremel it takes less than 30 seconds to grind the skirt. I never thought of a nail file, but it might work with a good quality nail file, and clipping it with wire cutters would probably work too, just be careful not to damage the connector. If you do happen to damage the connector and just want a replacement, I'll be happy to mail you a blank connector, (pre-ground) to solder on along with a description of what color wire to connect where.

Rocketman: I'm glad that took care of the problem for you. I'm still kicking myself for such a stupid problem slipping through after I tried so hard to make sure everything worked the first time for everyone.

If anyone is able to get a good before and after pic, I'd appreciate it. I tried to photograph it and didn't get a very good image. Maybe Kacee could take a side by side photo of the connectors when you get it in the mail, your photo of the unit/harness was good.

i've already sent s2kman an e-mail regarding this problem, but i want to ask others who has the dcu also.

when i program mine,

if i program only up to chan. button, the unit accepts the code and works fine (of course, without the volume buttons) -

if i program everything, the unit rejects the code and does not work.

so obviously there's something wrong with the "volume button" part. either my s2000's, the dcu units, the wiring, or my programing skill.

anybody has the same problem?
do you think it's the wiring problem? or the unit's problem?

seung,

if the 1/8" jack is not seating properly, anything can happen.

For me, the only functions that would program correctly were SOURCE (3) and POWER OFF (0). All other button functions were completely different than what I programmed. I tried to program 4-5 times with same results.

For other people, the programming took, but then went away or changed. For a few, functions 10 and 11 didn't work right, but everything else did.

As far as I know, all of these problems have gone away for the people that have fixed the plug. Fix your plug (or wait for the fix from S2Kman) and if it still does not program OK, you have other problems.

Took my S for it's first real drive last night since installing the DCU and rear speakers. The rears a a great improvement. The feeling is very immersive. I mucked around with the fader (actually a Front and Rear adjustment) and in the process got to hear all the sound from the front and all from the rear. Even from the rear alone, with the cheap 4" two way speakers deep down behind the seats the sound was pretty good.

The DCU worked flawlessly. I'm still getting used to the Vol up/down button controlling both Seek and Vol. Sometimes I just wanted the Vol up a smidge and I'd flick it and it would seek up to the next station. I'll get used to it.

Mute worked great for reeducating an idiot in a 4WD that thought if your front bumper is a foot ahead of the front bumper of the car beside you it was fine to change lanes so long as you don't indicate. The uprated FIAMM horns worked fine too.
