I am thinking about getting a new HU. I am planning to run without an amp for now, but would like the option to add one later if I need to. I am looking to add the DJQube controls, and I have already PMed him about this too, but I was wondering what everyone else's opinions were.

This one is a strong contender for me, but not sure if it will fit:

This is a likely choice number two, but also unsure of fit:

I am pretty sure this one will fit, but it does not have pre-amp outs.

If qube cannot make his controls work, anyone have any experience with Lucids controllers and any of these units?

Just getting started, pelase help me out with this one.

Good question, PAS.

The Alpine seems to be the HU of choice, but the last Alpine I had was a real drag. The controls were not intuitive to me, and the amber color of it was impossible to see in full sun. I know the new ones have better controls, but I have always been a big fan of the Sony ergonomics.

I have never really been impressed with the Kenwoods or Panasonics. Again, it's an ergo thing.

Finally I get Sony points from my Credit Card, so I will get a price break on the unit. I would consider another HU if there were compelling reasons to go for it.

I have the Sony CDX-M850MP, it is the fu<kin BOMB! It fits perfect, and it powers my Sony XS-HF600G components, and my

Sony XS-V1333 speakers in the back. My sound is awesome now. This summer I'll add an amp and a sub woofer just to get a bit more bass maybe. I'm not sure because it does sound damn good now. Go with the Sony, it is second to none. Lucid's Controller doesn't work however, I ordered it, and it doesn't work. I'm going to get Qubes dash eventually. Good luck.

I have the CDX-MP30, which is Sony's bottom-of-the-line MP3 player, but it sounds good, works well w/ the Lucid DCI and most importantly leaves money for the amp that you'll want to add to make the radio audible w/ the top down at highway speeds

With all due respect BB I don't think any head unit alone sounds good at highway speeds w/o additional power. Now I'll add the caveat that I don't have any rears (which I'm adding as soon as a certain UPS package arrives) but even amped w/ 70W apiece I still find my fronts lacking at h/w speeds. There's a big difference between "hearing" the music and it actually sounding good. It's pretty common knowledge that HU's typically put out significantly less than their claimed wattage, and I simply don't feel that 50Wx2 is sufficient for clear music at 70 MPH.

That's just my opinion, but ...
