Default Sony or Pioneer Head unit?

Hi,

i am choosing between a sony MEX-BT3700U or a pinoeer DEH-6100BT
teh only big differenec i can see is in the number (4channel for sony, 6 channel for pioneer) and voltage (2v for sony, 4v for pioneer) of the rca pre-outs. i dont know much about these, are they important?

the s2k has pairs of front door speakers, front tweeters and rear speakers. does that mean i will need the 6 channels of the pioneer?

also the sony is approx $180, the pioneer is $260. for these prices i could get a higher sony MEX-BT5700U that also has 4v preouts (i cant find out if it is 4 or 6 channel though)

one more question, can anyone recommend a good pair of front door speakers that would fit the s2k?

how much should i spend on front door speakers (i am not too picky, but appreciate quality, bang per buck)

Well i would go with pioneer over the sony anyday, i have a pioneer and its been fantastic for going on 3 years. Sony in my opinion does not do good car audio. I used to work at circuit city and a lot of people either complained or returned them for various reasons. As for speakers my personal favorite would be Polk Componants. Since your like me and appreciate quality i would look more into the pioneer.

Stick with the pioneer. I have one of their Premier models.

Do you need the Bluetooth capability of the units? If not you could save a few pounds there. I found my 2yr old Pioneer a bit picky over phones it would hook up to.
Are you going to add amplifiers? If you are not then i wouldn't worry about thr preouts at all.
The front speakers in the S2K are components running through a crossover, meaning they are only one channel. The rears are a second channel. The third channel would only be used for a dedicated sub.
I have just purchased the 7150 Pioneer, and would only choose a HU that has USB in, it is such a great feature.
Can't help with the speakers, except to say search, as you may need to buy or make speaker spacers for your purchase as the std ones are quite slim in depth.

I just installed my Pioneer P6100BT today.

Its the first audio install I've ever done and I had no problems doing it on my own. Had to wait for the Modifry DCI adapter to come in. Got the headunit from Crutchfield and the instructions were pretty straight forward.

Considering I have only been using it now for a few hours, I love it. I had no problems hooking up my Ipod Touch and the Bluetooth connected flawlessly to my LG Vu.

I recommend the Pioneer

I haven't installed these yet but I just got the Polk component speakers, DB6501

Not sure how the fitment is going to go. I got some 1/2" spacers coming anyways since I don't want to cut out the back of the stock speaker housings.

This will be my first speaker install so hopefully it will go good. I should be starting it in a few days. I can post up later on how the fitment went.

Fitment should be fine without the spacers... I've seen installs of the db6500 and db6501 and they both fit into the stock bracket just fine.

Do you have pics of the pioneer installed? Where did you route the cable for the ipod? How well does the headunit control the ipod? Is it slow? Intuitive? How does the bluetooth sound with the top down? Is it still usable?

Also, has anyone tried to see if the headunit works with an iphone? How well does the bluetooth work for the phone function if you have it hooked up for your music as well.

Thanks!
