Default sound dampening spray-in foam...

I was curious if anyone was aware of an spray-in aerosol based sound dampening foam. I'm looking to quiet down engine noises coming through the firewall on my race car that has very little insulation. I've heard of a product from Cascade. Anyone have any ideas on this?

Regards,

So-so results when I've used this in the past. Frankly, Dynamat works way better pound for pound. If you are weight sensitive, I wouldn't use either.

Hi Jerry --

Problem is the NSX has lots of nooks and crannies that I can't get sheets of dynamat into. I thought the spray option would be an idea...

They have a spray mat.

Crutchfield carries it.

I'm sure you've already thought of earplugs. Just kidding.

Nooks and crannies are bad news for Dynamat because it needs to be applied flush with the metal. If the spray foam will bond to the metal sure it might shave a few db, but you also have the rear cabin window to insulate on your car. The problem here is that to spray enough material to really make a difference, you'll add a fair amount of weight and only dampen one avenue for sound radiation. Acoustics are way tricky, sometimes the sound isn't coming from where you think it is.

My big fear in doing this would be trying to remove the foam stuff if it doesn't work to your satisfaction. But that is probably why you are asking in the first place.
