Default Sound System

I will begin working on my system within these few weeks.

My budget is around $1,000.

I plan on buying the following items:

Alpine head unit ($300)
pair of compnents_MB Quart, Infinity, etc ($200)
A subwoofer (Kicker Solor Baric L7 12 inch) ($200)
amplifier(directed amp)

I need some advice.

Should I run a 4 channel or just a mono amp for my sub

what other recommendations?

Ditch the kicker, its a POS.

Headunit is good.

Speakers....avoid lower model MBQuarts. Their top of the line speakers are great, but low line isnt all that...Some good choices....

Infinity Kappa Perfect
Alpine SPX
Boston Acoustics
Alphasonik...(I heard them last week, and they are VERY nice)
Focal

Amps....

Any GOOD amp that is 125x4 @ 4 ohms will be great.

Sub....go for...

Infinity DVQ
Alphasonik 8 series
Eclipse
Elemental Designs
Alpine type R is you want nice clean bass (300WRMS) or type X if you want some power

if I got the infinity kappa perfect, will a 4 channel amp be sufficient for the components and the sub

How would I wire it?

2 channel for the components and 2 channel bridged for the sub?

or one channel to each voice coil?

thanks!

Components: 1 channel per speaker
Sub: Single Coil: 2 channel bridged to one OR Double Coil: 2 channels, 1 for each coil (all depending on which Sub you buy).

Make sure your amp is also powerful enough as suggested by NFRs2000NYC

OK, I think I am just going to start off with the head unit: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...5733176608&rd=1

Now, I want components. Some ppl say 5 1/4 or 6 1/2

what size

I am going with alpine components:

http://www.ikesound.com/product-product_id/72

any suggestions?

ps: thanks for your comments thus far

IMO, I would pay the extra cash for the Alpine HU over the Kenwoods. Did you try looking at 9831/9833/9835 ?

Also, check out the Infinity Perfects (100x2) for components before you fully decide on the Alpines (50x2)....

my $0.02

Yes, I'm debating over the 9833 with the kenwood.

maybe I'll go with the alpine 9833

and these speakers: http://www.ikesound.com/product-product_id/589

i heard you have to do some cutting with these components, right?

finally, i need to know the size

5 1/4 or 6 1/2

First of all, get the 6.5 inch.

Second, dont get the Lower line speakers. Either the perfects, or the SPX line from alpine. 100watt speaker is better than 50.

Also, go for the Alpine HU. THey are MUCH more user friendly than kenwood, and have a lot of great features.

Sub, 2ohm x 2 (DVC) and wire each channel per coil.

the best advice that anyone can give u is to go to ur local audio shop, demo all the things u want. then choose wut u want.

dont buy wut other people like. in a way, ur just building their system. build ur own system. car audio is a reflection of urself. dont buy wut people tell u to buy. u might not like it.

i might like speaker A over speaker B, but u might like speaker B over speaker A. therefore listen to a set urself.
