Sound upgrade AP2
Hey everyone !
I'm looking for better speakers for my brother's AP2 (2006) .
I need to know or confirm some points :
_The OEM speakers are 6"5 ? What is the max fittable depth ?
_Does he have speakers behind the seats? If yes, is it worth replacing them ,or just unplug them to avoid confusion with the door ones?
_What is the max size for new tweeters? Are there some tips to know, some mistakes not to make in their choice or installation?
I've alread ordered an amplified flat subwoofer for a cheap and space-saving bass boost, but the matter now is higher frequencies.
What tiny amp would fit great and provide a good signal to speakers?
The budget for amp + speakers/tweeters is tight, about 350 $ / 300 € is the objective for now, aftermarket is an option.
If you have links about these questions, or more generic threads about audio improvement, I'd be grateful
Thanks
L

Easy way out, perhaps.
The first is to upgrade the Head Unit. I got a nice Sony with 45 watts and the ability to hook up another amp (but I never did)
I installed NVH material (noise deadening of BQuiet and 3M Thinsulate in the doors and floor.
The difference was huge. I was going to replace the stock speakers (2009) but now I am not going to bother. Bass is great and I can hear it fine with the top down on the freeway. (The interstate with semi trailers is another thing. )

My old DB6501 speakers died after 6-7 years. I picked up the old MM6501 just recently. They were similar in price to the new DB6502. I've only done one side so far (got interrupted) so say they are any better than the lower model DB6501. Supposedly the DB6502's big difference is that they are shallower.
There are some posts on how to change the head unit and replace the speakers. I believe that the headrest speakers were an OEM option. He'll have to check to see if he has them.

For my '04 AP2, the were fairly easy to install. For Polk, the 6501 are component sets, which means they are separate speakers and tweeters. The 651 series are coaxial combined speakers with built in tweeters.
The 6501s do not fit in the OEM baskets. You can to use their included plastic adapter ring. The plastic adapter ring's holes don't like up precisely. You need to slot a couple of them. You also need to splice wires to wire in the crossover.

Yes, that's the same as mine. Pictures seem to be dead again, but the guide is/was here.
