Smile speaker fried

I just installed my new system with 2 JL 2150 driving a pair of Polk DB2250. The amp is rated at 150w per channel and the Polks have a max rating of 100w.

I was tuning the system and adjusting the amp gain. I started smelling a burning smell but couldn't figure out where it came from. Then my right front speaker died.

I bought the speaker from Crutchfield and they are actuually replaving it for free. Awesome service from them!

I am not exactly sure what happened. I am a little scared it will happen again. Any ideas? Did I send too much power to the speaker. Would that burn the speaker? Was the speaker wired incorrectly?

And by the way I hooked up my good speaker the the amp on the blown speaker and it worked fine. It seems the problem is with the speaker and not the amp. At least I didnt blow the amp.

Yeah I would say you might have just got a bad set. Those speakers are nice and I've rarely heard anything bad about them. Just get the other set in and double check that everything is wire properly.
