Default Speaker Wiring Question

I am getting ready to install new speakers (Polk MM6501) in my 2005 when they arrive later this week. I am a noob here so please be gentle!

My interpretation of what I have read seems to indicate that I will wire the new crossover (and from there both the 6.5" and the tweeter) to the wires presently going to the stock 6.5" speakers. Doesn't the stock speaker system use some type of crossover already? If so doesn't the signal presently going to the 6.5" speaker have the high frequency filtered out?

I am probably missing something, maybe I have to run new wires all the way back to the head unit? If so .... OH NO!

Well, after I posted this I found a posting that I believe answers my question. It said that there is no factory crossover. More correctly there is a crossover of sorts represented by a capacitor mounted on the OEM tweeter. This all makes sense and when this capacitor is removed and the new crossover is wired into the speaker wire presently going to the 6.5" speaker all should be fine.

Is the above info correct?

Yes it is.

Existing wire goes to new crossover, then you'll need new wires running from the crossover t both the woofer and tweeter.

there is a cap on the factory tweeter, used as a crossover so the tweeter only plays highs. when you unplug the tweeter the cap goes with it.

I didnt have to rewire my speakers in my MY07.
I just cut the wires about 4 inches away from the stock speakers and just connected it to my infinity Kappas, everything works fine. That is of course mine are coaxial so I dont have to mess with swapping the tweeters. just plug and play. So im assuming yours will have to be rewired.
