Default Speakers

Does anyone have any info on the difference between the main speaker location on the 2001 verses the 2002. Are they the exact same size with the addition of the tweeters in the 2002? I have info on what speakers are drop in fits on the 2001 but not the 2002. I am also considering Lucids adaptors however I am having a hard time understanding how they properly seal the speaker for the correct sound. It looks like they would introduce a large airgap all the way around. Any help would be appreciated! George

This is no airgap. The foam rubber gasket compresses between the speaker and the flat surface of the adapter keeping the air from the front of the speaker seperate from the air from behind.

Lucid, how long is your shipping time on the adapters. I had the feeling from the pics I saw the gap would be between the adaptor and the car however I may not be looking at it right. I have also decided for now to keep the factory head unit but add an amp. Would your harness be a simple way to go with a speaker level amp without breaking the factory harness? George

I have installed my speakers with Lucid's Adapters. (MY02) They fit like a glove without any gap at all. I did add the Baffles to replace what the Stock baskets do for water run off. These adapters really made all the differance with how well the install went. All I would have been left with of the stock baskets would have been the outer ring once I trimed them to fit the MB Quart speakers I installed. I am also using the speaker harness he sells to wire them into the stock wiring. As it sits right now I could be back to stock in about 20 minutes, I never will but I could.

Jshahan, which quarts did you go with? Did you add an amp? Is your car a 2002? How did the install go overall? Any surprises. It looks like Lucid site is very through on how to remove the door panels. I may have to buy the adapters just to pay him for his effort on the web site! George

Shipping time on the adapters is 24-48 hours. We have 200 pair stocked at the moment.

I have a Sebring/Black 2002. In the front I installed MB Quart QM218.03 components (6.5 Mid/Bass .75mm Ti Tweeters. 2001 model.). The tweeters were installed in the stock location, using the stock hardware. I did not use the stock tweeter wire because of the crossover. I mounted the crossover in a box located in the door panel. When you remove the panel, you will see what I mean. The Mid/Bass fit like a glove using Lucids' adapters.

The over all installation was easy. I had done stereo installation when I was younger, but back then there was no adapters for anything (1975-80). It took longer to make the wiring harnesses for the doors. If I was not such a perfectionest, and just wired them using crimp fitting, I would have been done in 30 min a side. (I soldered all the connections and loomed and wrapped the wires. But that just me. ) And surprise there was one. The MS Quart tweeter can be mounted 3 ways (Flush, Surface, and Angled). Because the Tweeter had a mounting hole in the rear (Threaded hole in the center of the tweeter) This gave me the option to install using the stock tweeter hardware. This was a great option. I even replaced the Stock grills on the tweeter with the MB Quart tweeter grills. They were the exact same size. All I had to do was remove the stock plastic grills, and then press fit them into place. When I was done you could not tell I had installed anything, it just sounded better.

As for an Amp, It is in the box sitting under my desk. Unless I get a JL Audio SteathBox, I will not install it, and will sell it.

I hope this help. All in all if you can operate a screwdriver, then you can install them.

Jshahan,

I'm curious about your tweeter installation, since I've been wondering what I'm going to do once I get some replacement speakers.

First of all, how did you attach the MBQuart tweeter grills? I know what you mean about using the stock tweeter hardware, i.e., that flat metal piece w/ the screw in the center. But, doesn't that metal piece also screw into the stock tweeter grill, to the left and right of the center screw? So, without the stock tweeter grills, what did you screw the metal piece into?

Also, which of the below mounting options did you use: flush, surface, or angle?

Lastly, how did you deal w/ the curved surfaces of the driver's(concave) and passenger's(convex) door panels where the tweeter grills are located?

thanks,
gil

Jshahan,

You said you used....."I have a Sebring/Black 2002. In the front I installed MB Quart QM218.03 components (6.5 Mid/Bass .75mm Ti Tweeters. 2001 model.). The tweeters were installed in the stock location, using the stock hardware."

1.) I thought the tweeter had to be 45 mm maximum, which was what I heard was the stock size.

2.) You mentioned your amp is not installed. What exactly are you powering your mb quartz with now?

thanks
