Speed Sensitive Volume
Does anyone have access to a factory wiring manual? I need to know where I can find the Vehicle Speed Sensor wire so that I can connect it to my Blaupunkt stereo for the Speed sensitive volume feature to work. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

I posted my reply here and on the other thread.
There is an easy connection behind the driver's side kick panel. Looking from the transmission toward the left side of the car, there will be a blue connector at the bottom front. It is the wiring connector closest to the foot rest, and has 16 wires in it. The blue/white wire is the vehicle speed sensor connection. It is the only blue/white wire on this connector, and is between a white/blue and a yellow/red. This is where I tapped in for my homemade volume control.
If you don't have a manual this may help too:
To remove the kick panel
1. pull the door threshold up first - it just snaps out, (3 clips).
2. at the very top left of the kick panel, remove the plastic trim fastener behind the rubber door gasket.
3. pull the kick panel out by gentle yankage of the two snap clips, one close to the firewall, the other close to the door opening.
4. you'll have to pull the hood lever "open" to get the panel off.
I've had this panel off so many times I don't even bother putting the clips back in place. Let us know if the Blaupunkt feature works.

I connected the Blaupunkt speed sensing wire to the Blue/White you mentioned this evening. With the top down it made no noticable difference, although at lower volume settings it takes a big change in numbers on the dial to make an appreciable difference in the volume of the system. I will try it again with the top up and see if it works better.
The Blaupunkt system allows for 6 settings, 0 is off and 5 is the most aggressive setting. I used 5 the whole time.
PS How is this connection wired in the car. I take it, that it is an input to the CPU. I am guessing that the sensor completes the circuit to ground causing the input to go high for every pulse of the inductive proximity sensor? I plan to send an email to Blaupunkt as their wiring diagram is a very simple pictogram, that does not giving me any details on what their system is looking for.
Thanks for the help.

The speed sensor goes to the instrument cluster and the ECU (CPU) from what I remember, I'm travelling this week and don't have my manuals. But I do have the scope trace I made when I first started this project.
The speed sensor waveform is a good squarewave, 3.5 volts peak-peak, centered about 2.8 volts above ground. So it essentially goes from about 1 volt to 4.5 volts, at a rate of about 44 cycles/mph. You may be able to contact Blaupunkt and see if this is compatible with your head unit. This trace was made at 31 mph.

Blaupunkt tech support just got back to me, and they suggest a different wire. They didn't mention where the cruise Control connector block/module is phisically located. Can anyone help?

The correct wire trace would be white/black at cruise control module at pin

Bear in mind my manual is for a MY2000 not a 2001, but I doubt it's any different.
This wire will be a little harder to get to. The cruise control unit is under the driver's dash; it's the silver metal box with a blue wire connector on the bottom. It's between the clutch and brake switches (actually right up against the brake switch). From under the dash looking up it tends to be hidden by a black plastic wire loom.
The connection will be easier to make if you disconnect the blue connector first. There is a small tab on the clutch side of the connector you must depress in order to pull the connector out of the cruise control unit.
Blaupunkt is half right, the wire you want is black/white, but it's in position 12, not 3. Position 3 is a black ground wire. They probably looked at the connector backwards 'cause 3 and 12 are diagonally opposite. Anyway, look for a black/white wire, third pin from the outside edge of the connector, on the side without the locking tab. It's between a light green and a brown/black. It won't be too hard to find once you get the connector out.
This wire is after the speed signal passes through the gauge assembly where it is re-shaped and run through a frequency divider. End result is that its' a lower frequency, the other speed input was probably too high a frequency for your blaupunkt unit and had your radio thinking you were doing 10 times faster than actual speed.

I have a JVC digifine unit with the speed up like you have and it wasn't all that hard to install, just plug and play. it's got 2 settings, for loud, louder and very loud. It sounds complicated for b.
Some of the info that you supplied seems to be inconsistent with my cars wiring harness. Here is the wiring as I see it on the blue connector connected to the Denso cruise control module above the clutch pedal.
Could you double check your info Mr. Modifry?
Due to technical difficulties the drawing I created in Word, saved as a htm does not display here. I am trying to find a program that would convert the htm file to a jpg or some other image file that would seem to be supported.
PS Thanks for all of the help.
