Start engine button is not working

Default Start engine button is not working

as i was leaving class i got into my S and turned my key and hit the start engine button and nothing.... i know its not my battery, but i dont know what it could be. all electronics of the car work fine but the start engine button. ive been push starting it now for a day. is there anyone that can give an idea or shine some light on this for me?

What (if anything) happens when you push the start button? Is there a "click?" Do the lights dim?
Does the radio shut off? How do you know it's not your battery?
A few possibilities:
1) bad battery
2) you're not depressing the clutch
3) bad starter relay
4) the switch that detects the clutch has failed
5) a wire has gotten disconnected
6) the starter solenoid is bad
7) the start button itself is bad
I don't have a wiring diagram handy, but apparently I addressed a similar problem a few years ago
in this thread (which I have no memory of...)
BTW this forum is mostly frequented by people with an interest in electronic accessories (stereos, etc) -
you may do better in the "Under The Hood" forum.
