Default Stereo Sounds Different suddenly

Hey guys, I'm pretty dumb when it comes to this kind of thing, so please bear with me...

I have a small system in my car, including a 10inch sub and amp in the trunk. I recently picked up my car from my friend's shop where he was swapping on a fresh head for me. Ever since I got the car back, the stereo doesn't hit as hard, specifically the subwoofer.

for example, I'll have to turn the bass up to +5 in an effort to get it to sound how it used to at only +2. I've checked the settings on the amp and it doesnt seem as though theyve been changed. I believe the only thing that could have affected the electronics while it was at the shop, was the battery being disconnected for a good period of time. I don't see how that could cause this, but hey, stranger things have happened right? Right?

Please give me any insight or a place to start troubleshooting if at all possible guys.

If you need more info about what exactly the amp/sub/speaker combo let me know. I haven't included it because

1. I didn't think it was necessary for this problem
2. I don't have it off the top of my head.

Thanks in advance for any ideas.

How about some information about your sound system? Headunit? speakers? Brands? models?

I agree with Kenny, we need more specs of the installed equipment.

nothing has changed as far as the components... the stereo is exactly the same, just doesnt sound as good as it did before i took it in.

I'm trying to sign into my account from where I ordered the components but I'm having some technical difficulties. Waiting for them to send me a new password. I'll have the specific pieces for you guys soon.

The head unit is an Alpine
The amp is a Soundstream
The sub is Diamond Audio
The speakers/tweeters are CDC.

Like I said, will have the specific models soon hopefully.

I guess I should clarify. I took the car to my friend for a new CYLINDER head. Not a head unit. Sorry for the confusion

Since they disconnected the battery, you lost all your settings in the deck. I assume it was a nicer Alpine deck. There is more to it than just sub level controls.

Short story. All your settings on the headunit have been lost. Without knowing which model it is its impossible to tell you to what extent those settings may have control over your sound, as quality and EQs of headunits vary by price and model.

So for now, get off your ass and read the front of your headunit and give us the model number.

The HU is the Alpine CDA 105

when i installed the sub with a friend, the only settings we adjusted other than what were on the amplifier were the ones that i can scroll through on the HU:

1. Subwoofer level
2. bass
3. treble
4. balance
5. fade
6. Defeat on/off

I checked to see if maybe there was a loudness button or setting or something but if there is I haven't found it yet.

I have all the settings for the sub/bass/treble the same as I had them before, the stereo just sounds...weaker...since i got it back

Check under the hood and make sure no ground cables or anything had been left disconnected.

checked when i got home and nothing seems amiss with the ground wires.

Luckily i found my owners manual for the HU (i know, major head slap). I'm gunna flip through that later and fiddle with whatever I can

thanks for the suggestion khan

The Apline's can be pretty indepth with tuning. So you'll want to go through that manual and setup everything again from scratch.
