Lastly, does anyone know of anyway, any adapter, any wiring setup to create an auxillary input into the stock head?
There is a small chance this might be possible.

Our stock head unit looks exactly like the Odyssey EX HU. They are both made for Honda by Matsushita. They do have different model numbers, but some functions might be preserved between the two models.

Several Connector A pin-outs are not utilized on the S2000 HU but they appear to be "connected" to the internal circuit board of the HU, and these pins ARE used in the Odyssey. I looked at a schematic for the Odyssey electronics to see if I could get a clue as to what they were used for.

Others in this forum (MacGuyver, Lucid, Modifry, et. al.) have pointed out that pins A5 and A15 provide signal for the Right Rear speakers, and A6 and A16 supply the Left Rear speakers. The signals are controlled by the HU Fader function, but DO NOT mute when the Mute button is pressed. These pins are not used in the stock S2000, but they CAN be used...see all of Lucid's posts!

The Odyssey has a Navigation System option, and the Nav interfaces with the HU, so spoken directions play THROUGH the sound system (at least through the FRONT speakers). This probably explains why we have a bizarre mute function in the S2000...see comment below. Anyway in the Odyssey, sound signal is put INTO the head unit, in stereo, through pins A12 (Right +), A13 (Left +), and A11 (Common -). When the Nav System "speaks" directions it "mutes" the head unit front CD/radio, and speaks directions through the front speakers.

If A12, A13 and A14 pins serve the same function on the S2000 HU (remember a Nav system is an option on the JDM S2000) there may be a way to use those pins as auxillary input (i.e. MP3 player). Just stick three extra wires into the harness plug, attach the wires to a stereo mini-plug receptacle, and mount it somewhere convenient. The Mute button would work as your input selector. My guess is you couldn't do this AND use the rear speaker signals because of the bizarre muting strategy. DISCLAIMER: Try this at your own risk. I'm not sure WHAT the signal is from the Navigation system (whether it's amplified or not, etc.) and obviously I'm not sure this would work at all!

THE S2000 MUTE CIRCUIT:
Others have pointed out that the S2000 remote mute button is unconventional in that it SUPPLIES 12V to the HU, rather than going to ground as most head units do. My guess is this is because the 12V activates a relay circuit inside the HU, switching between CD/radio and Navigator input. This could be at the line -in level, or a relay that switches front speaker outputs if the Navigator signal is already amplified. Anyway, I'm guessing this is just a vestigial function of the Odyssey system. I doubt that they would manufature a completely different stereo for the S2000 since it has such small production numbers, but they ARE different model numbers.

I don't have an Odyssey or its Helm manual, I was just fishing around in one of their forums. Seems like some Ody owners are trying to wire DVD entertainment systems, etc. into their stereo/nav electronics so there might be more clues about this somewhere out there!

Good luck!

Wow. *digesting* Thanks for all that. I'll have to dig out my electronics 101 book and review a bit here.
