Stock Headunit with Amp?
Hello everyone, just curious if there are many people doing this? I like the factory look of the stock stereo and was going to upgrade my front speakers. Has anyone run an amp off the stock headunit? And if so any recommendations on an amp? I just want cleaner sound and since this isn't my daily driver I would rather save money for better performance mods. Thanks in advance!
Im not sure if the Stock radio has RCA outputs or not (red and white cable connections). That is what is typically on the rear of aftermarket units, used to give audio signal to an amplifier then amplifier to the speakers.
I would look into a nice Line Out Converter or LOC. What this does is tap into the speaker output wiring, captures the signal, and gives you the red and white RCA outputs to then run RCAs to your amplifier. Some LOC's come with crossovers but I would do without it if you are not very savy on audio tuning.
As far as amp choice goes, it depends on the speakers. And I will tell you right now the stock speakers are junk. Get a pair of Pioneer A-series component speakers from amazon $80 and you will be glad you did. I went ahead and also ordered a pioneer headunit $120. Thats not very much money to spend if you want good, right results the first time.
The stock speakers probably cant hold much more power than the factory headunit, yet alone an amp. So I would minimally upgrade the speakers. Right now I have a 2 channel amp pushing ~100watts to each door. They are VERY loud and crisp at full volume. Couldnt be happier
