Default Stock stereo not working

I was cruising last Saturday here in Chicago and the stock stereo sound output just went did. I check the mute buttom, is OK. I can see that the stereo is working but no sounds at all the speakers. Check the wires on the speakers, their OK. Anyone have an idea what happen? I have in dash clarion LCD and DVD laying around which I plan to install when I have time. I guess I have to make up time now.

Do you have a 2000 or 2001? If so, you most likely need to have your radio replaced. There's a TSB out for it (00-048, I think) that discusses audio cutting out at high volumes.

did you ever disconnect the head unit from the battery? if you did, you'll have to re-enter the password code that came with the car. it's part of the anti-theft system of the radio.

Did the radio appear to be working otherwise (display OK, etc.)? If it did, you probably have the same issue as in the TSB. If the display was blank, it sounds more like a bad connection, most likely at the harness.

The display is still there and seems everything works OK but no sounds at all. I think there is a cold solder on the stereo component because when I drove the car today and hit a bump the stereo just work. I know its not the harness or speaker connections. I think MacGyver your right with TSB on the head unit.

Hmmmm, I don't think a single cold solder joint would cause the problem in both speakers...it would have to be several points. A bump temporarily fixing the problem sounds more like a short somewhere in the wiring harness that was opened by the bump. The TSB was for the internal amplifiers overheating and shutting down causing the loss of audio, not cold solder joints.
