Default stupid newbie question

if you change out the stock radio, doesn't that affect your remote control fobs? I just had a second remote programmed for my just purchased '05. The tech said that they work through the radio.

Obviously there are lots of users replacing the stock radio, so it must not be that big an issue, but wanted to be sure before proceeding.

You can have them wired to work. That was my stipulation of installing my headunit. If my controls didn't work on the dash I would not pay for it. My mute button and everything works.

I read the FAQ and saw you could link the in car stereo controls, I was referring to the keyfob to open and lock doors, etc. The Honda tech said they worked through the stock radio and when setting the new fob specifically asked me the question if I still had the stock radio.

Maybe the radio is needed to program the fob but they can work without the radio if already programmed to the car?

the keyless entry system has nothing to do with the radio headunit.
