Default Sub options

Greetings!

I am in the process of installing a new system in my S! Yea! I have a couple of questions. First, I want to install a sub in the car. No bigger than a 10". I need to have room in the trunk to carry two sets of golf clubs and there for can't take up any space there. Is there anyone who makes a box that fits in the spare tire area? How big of a sub can you put in there? Also, will an amp fit in there with the sub? If not, can I mount the amp under the front seat? If anyone has good suggestions please post them.

Sorry for all of the questions! I'm just a rookie when it comes to stereo stuff. I have always just had bigger cars that allowed for almost anything.

Thanks,

Andy

Wow...you can get two sets of clubs in the trunk! Amazing.

Well I had this long paragraph about your problem written...but then I realized it was not anything useful. Basically it said "Nope won't work." Sounds like you are going to have to get creative for this design and I am going to leave that for the more experienced installers.

I think you can fit up to a 12" sub in the well of the trunk. So a 10" or two 10" or two 8", etc, etc. should fit.

The amp could possibly fit under the passenger seat, but it depends on the amp. Also an option is to put the amp where the spare tire is now.

Keep in mind that the well is used for carrying a flat tire. So if you have a sub (or two) in the well, your spare tire is almost useless anyway.

Ill save you the time.....

With Johns box, WLAURENTS box, or gods own box, there is NO way in hell you are fitting 2 sets of clubs in the trunk. I cant believe you got 2 sets in with a stock trunk. So either reconsider, or forget the sub.

If he can get two bags in the trunk now, why wouldn't he be able to fit them in with a sub in the well? As long as it doesn't stick up, should be fine.

(I am guessing these are SMALL golf bags.)

I can fit two bags in there now. However I need to have room on both ends to do it. I believe that I can put a sub in the well, however I am specifically looking for options for removing the spare tire and putting a sub in that area.

Has anyone done this? Does anyone make a box that will fit in there?

I have heard about these flat self-powered bass speakers that simply slide under the seats. I dont know much about them, or even if they work or will fit under these seats. It would be kick a$$ if they did work, because the rumble would be right under you and would be directed directly up through you. Does anyone know if these flat bass speakers actually work? I found them in the Crutchfield catalog, between the sub speakers and the bass tubes.

you'd be surprised what you can fit into the trunk of the S... and my CO set out to prove it...

imo - your best option is looking for a low profile box that keeps the sub below your trunk level, and then using Jim's (PAS2KNut) amp rack.

just my thoughts...

It is also possible to install a sub AND multiple amps AND retain your spare with absolutely no loss of trunk space. Many S2000 owners have done so.

So keep in mind as you weigh your options that it is very possible to have an excellent sound system with absolutely no loss of useable space.

As for the sub: there have been several S2000 in-cabin subwoofer installs.
-in the passenger footwell
-under driver's side dash
-under seat
-in doors
-in center console/secret compartment area

-Beyond that, some folks have borrowed the Bose spare tire amp/sub combo from the RSX and modified it for use in the S2000. There is also at least one untapped possibility that requires a bit more work: the space between the fuel tank and the rear bulkhead/rollbar area ported into the cabin (This would require significant teardown to access the space, but might result in giving you what you want.)

As for the amp: A few very small amps will fit under the passenger seat. Larger amps will fit under the driver's seat IF you do not have the OEM security system installed under there. The exact dimensions are available in other threads on the subject. Other zero-space-loss amp locations are inside the spare tire and above the fuel tank.
