Default Another Sub Queston: Jl Audio or Focal

I blew out an 8" kicker (square one, can't recall model #) that was located behind the passenger seat where spare tire went. So, I have finally come to the conclusion a trunk sub woofer is best. JL Audio 10W3v3 with the stealth box seems fine (won't rehash all the arguments here), but I'd love to put in a Focal sub to match my system. I have Focal K2P up front and the Audison Lrx 6.9 amp. The three channel configuration would give me 280W at 4ohm or 470 at 2 ohm. Does anyone have a focal sub in the trunk? If so, which one? I have gone to a few installers and everyone I meet says the Focal subs will not fit, and the JL would be the best bet.

I don't want to put the sub somewhere in cabin. I have seen many good looking set ups that do that, but I want the bigger sub. Also, anything I put in cabin would not sound a whole lot better than the JL but the cost would be a lot higher. So, trunk it is for me.

Please share thoughts on Focal sub in trunk. If anyone also knows of a good installer in the SF Bay Area let me know- I've been up and down the Peninsula and keep getting the same answer- stick with the Jl.

Thanks in advance,
Hobbes

Appreciate the responses. Thanks for the installers recommendation! I hadn't been to those two, but both seem good and I will check them out soon.

Everyone has JL, that's part of the problem!

Main problem for me is I miss my old setup. I had a '91 Mazda Rx7 and the acoustics in that car were sooooo much better. Tons of room behind the two seats, so I put in a box with a 10 inch shallow mounted Pioneer sub. Not the greatest sub, but it worked with my budget back then. But, even at low volumes I got a nice back massage. Miss that.

I think it will come down to whether I think it's worth it to spend the money on a Focal. I can, but the JL system is a great bang for the buck, and I don't want to spend, for example, double the price for only a small improvement in sound. I haven't heard anyone say yet that Focal subs are a lot better than JL, but all the reviews seem to indicate Focal is worth the money.

Dangerzone, thanks for this- I hadn't considered that sub. How well is the fit? Is your system bi-amped? Jl recommends the bi amp setup with your sub, but I think I can run this on my audison lrx 6.9 without any issues in three channel mode. I checked the jl site and their recommendation for enclosures (both for sealed and ported), and both seem too big at first glance. Haven't measured it though, doing that this weekend. If you have a pic I'd love to see it!

You might check this out. I have one (10" Memphis sub pushed with a Rockford Fosgate Punch P3 P3SD210) and love it.

It's another idea, less rattles, keep your spare (if you care), and you get a better sound stage (so I am told).
I am 5'11" and don't have a problem sitting in the seat. Nice foot massage too.
The only thing I would do different, would be a bigger amp, possibly a 4 chan, bridged down to 3 chan to amp my mids and highs in the doors.
2big4aS2000 is the guy selling it.

I could not go with a sub in the trunk, with all the crap I have to lug to work daily, the trunk is almost full.
