suggestions please!
Okay, well I keep debating on what to purchase for my s2k audio setup. The main type of music I will be blaring is rock/metal. Therefore HIGHS are extremely important. So these are the two main setups I have decided on, please advise.
Alpine 9827 CD/MP3/WMA receiver
Lucid Multi-Dash Radio Controller
Alpine MRV-T320 2 Channel V12 Amplifier 80Wx2 RMS
Alpine SPX-177A 6.5" 240W 2WAY Components
Monster Cable Car Install Kit
ORRRRRRRRRRRR
Alpine 9827 CD/MP3/WMA receiver
Lucid Multi-Dash Radio Controller
(Used)Alpine V12 MRV-F400 4 Channel Amp
Alpine SPR-174A Type R 6.5" Coaxial Speakers
(1) KICKER SOLOBARIC L5 10" Sub
Monster Cable Car Install Kit
I'd rather just put the nice components in rather than having to deal with a sub, IF I can get similar performance from a good set of amped components. What do you all think?

possibly #2. definitely not 1.
be aware, that most Alpine amps aren't 2 ohm mono stable when bridged. so, you'll need to get a sub that presents a 4 ohm total FINAL load.
i checked on Alpine's site:
http://www.stylestandard.net/oswego/Doc/0/...B4/MRV-F400.pdf
the MRV-F400 is a 40Wrms x 4 @ 4 ohms amp (12V)... 2 channels bridged mono will only get you 100 Wrms @ 4 ohms (12V). so, at best - at 14.4 V running conditions you're probably getting closer to 60 Wrms x 4 @ 4 ohms, and 160 Wrms w/ 2 channels mono bridged for a sub.
thankfully, these are honest numbers vs the fabricated junk usually so common.
but, the L5 is too much of a power hog for that amp... you need to consider other subs more suited for that power... like the Comp VR's or something.
also = Alpine SPR-174A Type R 6.5" Coaxial Speakers
how much are you spending here? we may be able to find you better speakers for the same price.
also -- please, don't buy all Alpine just so the logos match... you're definitely selling yourself short on your options for components...

Thanks for the info.... I've always been an Alpine fan, but I'm aware there are probably better speakers out there.... I'm paying 139.95 brand new for the 6.5 Alpine SPX 177A compo (ebay)
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...ssPageName=WDVW
Which isn't to bad considering they retail at 399.95 (according to my local alpine dealer).
I don't really require a large amount of bass, but at least a decent full range that I can crank without it sounding like a shower of sparks with no bottom end.. Do you think these components alone will give me what I'm looking for?

can't say i'm very experienced with the Alpine PSX 177A. i would just encourage you to make sure you go and listen to this speaker and other options before putting down your hard earned cash. i've heard several Alpine sets of components, but haven't been always very specific to which model i'm hearing... none of them appealed to me at all.
i generally prefer a warmer midrange sound with solid bass and clear highs -- the Focal and Boston speakers generally fall into my preferences.

Yea, that's another thing that sucks.... I can't find a dealer anywhere in my area that carries the the SPX 177A's...... Primarily, because Alpine is pushing the more "affordable" speakers in the consumer market.. such as the Type S and Type R components.... which, did not impress me that much either. I'm primarily going on the recomendation of a friend who has apparently heard these components in a car and said they were worth every penny (399.99) retail. Supposively, they are at a higher level than the original DD-Drive alpine components (back in the day). But, I had forgoten about Boston Acoustics......... =) I may need to go check those out first.
