On our last group drive, I got to borrow someone's Talkabout 250 2-way radio. It made a huge difference in getting things organized, changing routes, organizing photo ops, etc.

I am planning to buy a couple of radios. Can anyone recommend a brand or model to buy? I looked at the Motorola radios, and all of the models seem to be about the same.

Thanks!

Costco is carrying Motorola T6221 for $60 battery included! It has Vibration alert, weather broadcast, weather resistance hand free vox (need additional head piece for about $20)

I purchased model T6220 from Best buy for the last meet @ $70, battery not included

If you don't use these often and want to save money, you may want to consider Cobra. You can get 2 for about $40

Is the VOX worth having? I don't want to broadcast myself singing along to the Nine Inch Nails while driving.

Do these radios stand up to abuse?

I think the VOX is a good idea if you have no co-pilot. AS for durability, I think the Talkabout are built to withstand abuses.

VOX with an earpiece would be helpful. I was on that same WLA drive and could barely hear speech at highway speed.
