Hi guys, the new alpine double din stereo just came out (the IVA W200).
I was thinking about installing one of these into my dash (cutting the dash) instead of just installing a TME-M770 and then an alpine cd player and then a dvd player and then navigation. With this unit, i'll have the screen, cd player and dvd player built into one, and then i can just install the navigation unit where the stock radio used to be.
I know that the stereo is way too deep to fit without doing some remodeling back there (cutting the heating tubes). That is really not an option for me.
Most people couldn't do it, so the fact that your asking this question means you shouldn't be doing it. So no.
However they can fit will extensive custom work. It requires some cutting and you need to move the SRS system control box and relocate that to a different location.
Its a lot of work. A noob should not attempt this. Heck most shops shouldn't attempt it either
i;m in the process of finishing up my eclipse indash nav double din unit and i have to lose the air tube for the passanger side but i;m working around that now...
in order to fit a double din unit in the dash (by cutting it) you will lose or have to do a lot of work in order to retain the functionality of the passenger vent AND relocate the airbag control unit?
shit i thought it was pretty hollow back there.
So what about a unit like the pionneer where the brain of the unit is all a single din thing, with a stand alone monitor. how would that work? Looking at your pictures on your for sale thread, i'm primarily asking SB2007.
Well I have the GPS unit mounted under the driver's seat. The screen itself is only about 1.5 inches thick, so no clearance issues there. You probably have about ~5 inches of room back there before you hit the duct. You can kinda see it in this pic:
