Check out http://www.ricks2k.com and look at the instructions on isntalling the center console cover. It has detailed directions on removing the center console. You will have to remove the shift knob and the threads from the shifter can scratch the plastic if you are not careful.

The a-pillar plastic is pretty cheap to replace. It makes a good choice for the LED.
