Default For those of you with computers/ps2/etc

What have you used for vibration/shock suppression? All the roads can't be good for those delicate electronics (I accidentally kicked my computer once and it froze and shut down).

Also, what did you use to convert the DC 12V to the AC 120V? I know Opus has a DC-DC power supply, but what have you people used for you computer and PS2? I'm looking for specifics, I know they have converters out there but just looking for something you use personally to get an idea of the products out there.

Thanks fellas!

In a rough car like an s2000, there is nothing you can do against shock absorbtion.

As far as power....just get a small inverter.

But there has to be ways of minimizing or at least reducing shock... computer parts are $$$! Help?

I'm just loosely thinking of ideas and slowly thinking of an approach to my project... I'm definitely going to need your help though!

A very thick pad of foam... not much else you can do without NASA's budget.

www.mp3car.com is a good source for answers. Quite a few folks on that board do the carputer thing, and most have ingenius ideas for getting power to their systems and for protecting them from shock. Hope this helps - sure helped me.

Even my Alpine mp3 changer, which has some of the BEST anti-skip technology, skips on harsh roads.

I mean... I can live with skipping and stuff, that's just a fact that I'm going to have to face. I'm most concerned with damage that might be caused. I checked out mp3car.com and I got a few tips like mounting the harddrive vertically but any help would be appreciated! Thanks

Hard drives arent as sensitive as CDROM drives.....the problem is....

A regular CD drive will skip, and go back to its next position (audio CDs)

A PS2, if you were playing a game, a skip, would cause it to reboot.

I dont think I'm going to put a PS2 in my car (I'm not into video games, although I have been playing more and more frequently at my friends house)

The reason they stated was that mounting it parallel would cause the reader to smash into the thing (dont know what you call the thing data is stored on) so we'll see how that goes...

Hey Dave! Wanna help me design my system? I know you're up for a project!
