180W rms... then 8ga is fine...
NS is right, good gnd cables can be run up to 3' from the gnd point.
The reasons for being less than 3' are:
1. Ensuring good current flow
2. Minimize ground resistance to prevent ground loop issues (will most likely have noise problem if the amp's gnd terminal to battery negative post has more then 0.3 Ohms of resistance)
