Default Trunk Solenoid Failing?

Hi everyone,

For awhile now, the trunk on my MY04 has occasionally failed to open when using the key fob. That is, sometimes it would work, sometimes it wouldn't. My trunk brake light was also out, so I reconnected the wires and got that to work, but wires leading to the trunk latch looked fine. And as I mentioned, this only happens occasionally.

I'm going to borrow a multimeter to verify that the wires are in fact working, but at this point I think I need to order to part. Can anyone help me identify what I need to replace exactly?

I believe it's this: ACTUATOR ASSY., TRUNK for 2004 Honda S2000 COUPE 74856-S84-A51 : Cheaper Honda Parts cheaperhondaparts.com

Is there anything else that needs to be replaced? Also, is anyone having trouble accessing Majestic's Honda's parts website? I can't seem to access it.

Thanks!

Does the trunk release button in the glove box behave the same way? It and the keyless send the same +12v signal through the same wire
to the trunk lid opener, so if they behave differently the problem is not in the trunk.

As for Majestic Honda, their server is flaky and sometimes doesn't work, but they also have something badly configured so if you don't put
the "www" in front of it, you don't get there (welcome to 1995)!

^^Start here.
Not having the same problem with unlocking the doors with the FOB? Have you tried another FOB? When was the last time you changed the battery in the FOB?

Thanks for the responses.

I did check the release button in the glove box, and it behaves the same way. When the fob works, the trunk release button works, and when the key fob doesn't work, the trunk release button also fails.

I know it's not the fob itself because I'm still able to lock and unlock the car with it. Still, I tried changing the batteries anyways, and no luck. I believe I have another fob, so I'll try it out, but I doubt it will change anything.

In regards to the Majestic website, thanks for the tip! I was able to get to it.

Unless the trunk button is flaky.

Worth trying. Cheap fix if that is the problem.

To test the latch, at the connector apply +12v to the pin connected to the Blue/Lt Green wire, and
ground to the center (black) wire.
My bet would be a bad (black/yellow) wire where it enters the trunk.

I'm going to try this tomorrow once I get the multimeter.

I'll give everything a try and report back. Thanks for the help!

So as you said, I got a reading of about 12V with the ground to the center pin and the 12v to the blue wire. However, when i do the same with the black / yellow wire, nothing.

As far as I can tell, there is no break in the wire. Any idea how I can fix this?

Sorry should've mentioned that I already checked the fuse and it looked fine.

Also, like before, I was just succesfully able to get the trunk open using the key fob, and then it stopped working again. This is driving me insane
