Trunk wire repair
Thanks guys, I have been also informed that the relay in the keyless remote control box under the dash is at fault. I have decided not to tamper any further. Doors lock and open and the boot release in the car center console will suffice. Time to drive it.....
Best Wishes to all and thanks again

I don't know if there's a difference between US and UK cars, but I've never had any
problem with the key fob trunk release on my 2001 - just today I opened it from
roughly 40 feet (12 meters) with no difficulty. As with the other keyless entries
I've used, it generally requires line-of-sight, and you need to hold the button
down for roughly one full second, presumably to reduce the risk of opening it
by accident. In my case there is no need to unlock the doors first, though IIRC
the keyless is disabled with the ignition on.

Thanks, I have spoken to Hamilton Palmer and they think my car may not have had a boot remote opening facility.
In which case it's not broke and I am happy.
Thanks for all the kind input, I learn something about this car every week.

No, it definitely did have one if it has an H&P Alarm. My experience of it (and that of many others) is that it doesn't work particularly well.
