Default Tweeter mounting location for best imaging?

I'll be installing Infinity Kappa's (60.7cs)and want to get a little input on the best location to mount the tweeters for imaging. High in the doors, in the pillars facing the driver, or in the pillars facing the windshield? I had heard that it was best to face them toward the windshield but would think that this would cause a phase problem? This car is for 95% top down driving, this is the only set of mids and tweets I'm installing and they are each getting 116 watts.

My apologies in advance, I searched and searched for the answer but to no avail.

You'll get the best imaging with them facing the windshield, But you 'll have to adjust the cross-over to compensate for the distance the tweeter and the midrange woofer are apart.

Thanks for the reply. Can you elaborate on crossover adjustment?

The cross-overs that comes with those Infinity's have adjustable tweeter settings. They do that because the placement of the tweeter is never exact like they would be in a fixed 'coax' type set of seperate it. You'll need to adjust them to you liking and the sound timing based off the location you finally decide to place them in.

Those Infinity's have a 2-way external crossover network (18 dB/octave, 3,500 Hz high-pass and low-pass) with adjustable tweeter output settings. The tweeter output settings is what you'll have to adjust.

You are getting the latest version right?

Great thanks, yes, I am getting the latest ones....I think That's the 60.7cs right and the previous model was the 60.5cs?

Happen to know if those can be flush mounted or even better, mounted behind the plastic and perferate the molding? Not a big deal, I'm sure I'll get an answer to that when I dig into it.

Thanks again,
Steve

every car is different and imaging is all in the tuning. one thing you have to realize is facing your tweeters into the winshield will give you some uncontrollable reflections and your imaging can shift all over the place.

there are ways to control reflections by the way you face them. there are some theories behind winshield reflections called G.U.R.T. not sure how much info you can find since not many people understand the concept nor heard of the concept. i read it in one of the car audio forums.

when setting up a system for proper imaging, you need to try different locations and different angles and directions in which you face them. you basically need to listen for a high, deep and wide stage, once you have achieved those or are content with your staging, you need to somewhat tune a lil bit to get an idea how how your system images. without the proper tuning cd's and the acknowledgment of where each instrument is, forget it, it will be hard to tune for imaging.

one of the probelms tonality wise with relying on the reflection is the lack of top end freq's and the crazy peaks you will get at the 2khz-6.3khz range.

basically you will need to try different locations for yourself and like darkknight said, the crossover settings are super important. when trying to reach a really good imaging system, throw out the passives and run an active setup so you can control the level of each speaker.

one thing i forgot to mention, the plus side of using the window reflection properly will result with a deep stage.

Right and to go along with that its best if you have a HU that has Digital Time Correction. That will also help you properly set it up.
