Default tweeter protection? or BBE off at high volume?

just had my tweeter level lowered and sounds much better. however tweeters go into protection mode when i raise the volume high. this protection switch is located on the crossover. what can i do to keep the tweeter on at all volume level? will adjusting my amp resolve this problem? HELP!

How much power are you putting to them? I assume you have the VR650-CSi system... if you do then they are only designed to handle 60 RMS. If you pushing more than that that could be your problem.

What brand amp do you have and what are the ratings of it?

This is confusing....if you had them lowered they should be getting less power.

Did they go into protection mode when the tweeters were set higher?

I would think that the tweeter protection circuit would be after the output selection switch on the crossover, but perhaps not.

my initial/previous setting was at -1.5 db and tweeters did not shut down like this. current setting is -3.0 db. my theory is that with initial setting... tweeters were so bright that speakers might have sounded louder.

With the JL setup its tricky, I have mine set at the -1.5db setting and aimed them toward the windshield to relieve some of the brightness.

What I would also recommend is on the amp settings bring the gain for that channel down a little and that may relieve some of the distortion to the speaker as well (which is one reason the protection circuit will trip).

You certaily want the tweeters protection mode to function, or you will be replacing tweets often...

hmm... now i dont think its the tweeter protection because my sub's volume decreases too. on my alpine deck everything works fine up to volume 22 then if i put it on 23 thats when volume decreases. if i bring back the volume down to 22 then volume increase again.

how does this tweeter protection work? does it turn off tweeters completely when its on?

OK that is something different, maybe you have an issue with the HU???

Maybe it is distorting and that seems like the volume is decreasing??

Have you tried reducing the INPUT level on the amp? When you cross a certain threshold (Volume 22) the signal might be getting clipped by the amp. Try fiddling with the INPUT signal and see if it affects anything.

Just tossing something out there...

Make sure the Loudness feature is turned off too. If I'm not mistaken, this boosts high and low frequencies but turns off at higher volumes.
