UK stereo upgrade
Hi
I am new to this newsgroup, though been driving a S2000 for over one year now. I am UK based. I have only discovered this newsgroup recently.
I have always been disapointed with the stereo performance and this newsgroup has given me the information and inspiration I needed to improve the sound. Firstly I ripped out the Honda speakers (cheap and nasty) and put in Infinity 625s. Hmm some improvement, however not the full rich sound I expected. Next day, off with the panels behind the seats, out with my mini dremel cutter and in with some Pioneer TS e-1075s. This left me with the problem of connecting to the rear speaker outputs through the Honda connector. Bit of a bodge using solid copper wire a soldering iron and some chewing gum soon got me connected!, I hope to get a real adaptor as soon as I can get to my local auto electrian later this week. What an improvement!, lively undistorted sound, full rich base from the infinitys and nice mid and high frequencies from the Pioneers.
One strange thing was that the mute button muted all four speakers, this I did not expect. Do we have a different spec head unit? I believe mine is a Honda badged Bose unit linked to an Alpine CD changer.
Whilst now much improved, I have now got the upgrade bug. I have seen the S2000 adaptor in the Alpine brochure and am now looking for an Alpine head unit to replace mine. I believe that some of the UK Alpine units still have the M bus interface to the CD changer. Does anybody know what adaptor I will need to allow connection from the M Bus connector to the stock Alpine CD changer?
Thanks for the inspiration guys.

I'm not sure if it works with our headunits, but I'll soon find out.

Yes, the UK head unit is different. In the US they get a CD/Tuner, we have a Tape/Tuner. The head unit is not Bose, but I think it's the same source as the unit they use to drive the Bose systems. I think Bose only work on the speaker / amp setup. You didn't really think that the speakers were Bose did you?
The stock changer is an alpine system, but with the plug connections reversed! I think you can also get an interface to connect the m-bus changer to an AI-net head unit.
I never bothered with the Honda changer. I've got a Clarion MP3 player with 6-CD changer, using Pinky's mod for the dash controls.
