Default Underbody Neon Lights. Can I wire to fuse without having headlights on?

Hi All,

Bought myself some awesome neon lights for the underbody of my S2000, all is good and fixed and wired properly, the only issue I have is I can only switch them on with the headlamps on, is there a way I can wire them to a fuse where I can switch on another way, side lights would be acceptable, or better still another way altogether? It seems both the side lights and headlights are on the same fuse, and the neons only come on when the headlights are switched on, when I turn the switch once to turn side lights on the neons don't come on, only on second turn with headlights, would be cool if I can find a way to turn on without the headlights.

Does anyone have an idea?

Many Thanks

Tobes

Here you go. Under dash fuse box I wired mine to the constant 12v so I can power mine from the control box that came with the kit and I don’t have to have the key on or headlights on to run them

Oh hi thats super, thanks so much, I noted I could also wire in to the 5th fuse down on the right for "small lights" but looking at your image your solution looks a better installation, if I plug onto illumination will they come on withe just the side lights switched on, no main beam, I have to use my phone and bluetooth to change and play with the settings so if I can turn on and off with side light switch (one turn) they start up on last saved/used setting which would be great don't have to play with phone unless I want to.

Thanks kindly for your advice

Hey Iyan, Can I ask? How did you get the wire from the engine under the steering wheel, I can't see how I can do that? Was wondering if it would be possible to splice into the small light cable on the headlights but they are also so hard to access I haven't got a clue what cable it is. Any ideas? Many Thanks!

To run a wire through the firewall just snake it alongside one of the wire looms that go through the firewall. There's a rubber grommet that surrounds the wire loom at the firewall. Just run it alongside the wire loom. There are two wire looms under the clutch master cylinder that go through the firewall. The one right below the clutch master cylinder is the easiest one to access.

I have a different suggestion: you might want to consider using the fuse box in front of the battery. There are a couple available connector pins next to a 40W fuse you can plug into that are constant. You could pick up an inexpensive 12V relay and plug your lights into it, running power from this fuse box. Then you can run the primary circuit wire through the firewall to a switch somewhere on or under your dash, with the primary negative line grounded under the dash. This way you're not running a high current line a long distance, adding resistance and possibly getting a short. I hooked up my prelube pump that way 19 years ago when my car was new, and I've never had a problem with it.

IMO, running a high current wire through the firewall is a little risky.
