Universal memory card reader head units?
I was wondering if any "name" manufacturers made head units that accept memory cards? Seems like a good idea to me
I'd rather have memory cards than optical disks...
Found this one, from a no-name brand:

Thanks for any insight...

The Eclipse 8445 has a slot for a memory stick. It's fussy, so save receipts if your purchase media.
The downside is it doesn't allow high sampling frequency on audio. I think the limit is 128khz, but I'd have to look at the manual to be sure.

Why are manufacturers shy on doing the memory card units? The reader technology is cheap - is it the decoding that's difficult/expensive? Seems a natural for car audio applications.
Thanks. For listening to burned music, is SQ better from a CD compared to memory cards/thumbdrives? Is this why so few manufacturers make HU's with card/thumbdrive readers?

The only memory cards that work with Eclipse is Magicgate. There are a few decks out there that will accept USB so you can use any thumbdrive card. kenwood is one of them.
