Which other head units did you compare these with when deciding which one to but and install? What made you pick this one?

I just finished installing the Alpine UTE-52bt same unit as the OP. I wanted BT and was unimpressed with the sound from the IDX-300s. I love the new headunit. Sounds so much better. The Alpine TuneIt app is really cool. Got kappa components in front, Polk rears and 10" sub in back with JL 4.1 channel amp. I had an older Alpine HU prior to the 300s and it sounded great with the same components. The 52bt made me love my aystem over again. Listening to it right now . I highly recommend this HU if you are looking for BT.

I have the 149BT. I love the bluetooth as well and it works fine with either the iPhone (work phone) or my Samsung.

I went down to the shop to get the UTE-52BT installed, but it looks like it's being discontinued for a newer 62BT model. The main different is a 4v preamp voltage (vs 2v on the 52BT), a newer Bluetooth chip, and a $30 bump in price. My installer only had the 62BT, so I went with it and am happy to report it sounds great.

Does the 52BT and 62BT allow you to stream music from your iPhone wirelessly?

I installed the 62BT two weeks ago, along with a Modiftry DCI and an Alpine mini amp. Simple plug-n-play install. The 62BT streams over BT from my iPhone with no issues. It's the only way I listen any more. Oh, that also includes Pandora.
