I got the spacers from Modifry. I think they would have cleared depth wise, however, the circumference of the baskets on the Morel's...wow! I actually had to also modify the spacers as well, taking another 1/4" from their circumference.

Everything went together perfectly after I did that with no cutting on the doors.

I've been running JL C5-650's for a few years now, but I'm tempted to swap them out to Morels (or similar).

I'm running a PDX4.150 amp for the front speakers (previous speakers were bi-amped) so power should be plenty.

New pillars are like $25 a pop, so dont feel bad to cut them out... and for the best soundstage thats where you want them, facing you. The pillars pop out from the top, and there are 2 clips underneath spread out across it vertically. Just push aside the rubber molding and pop em out.
Even if you had an AP2 with tweeter positions in the door, the stock speaker positions arent the best. This is a better option.

HU - Kenwood KMM-X503
Component Speakers - Morel Hybrid 602
JL Audio 10" sub (ebay tool well box)
Alpine PDX F4 Amp

Those Morel speakers...UNBELIEVABLE!! I gave myself a headache last night playing different songs sitting in my garage with the top up. They just play so loud and so clean...zero distortion, zero strain. Plus you hear stuff in the audio track you may never have even picked up before, they're just simply amazing! The Sub is fantastic for a shallow mount unit and the PDX, well, it's just a great amp that always works and is always clean.

If you're looking for a setup and can't decide which route to go...you won't be disappointed with this combo, I promise you that!
I have a very similar set up.
The sound system is superb.
Went with 2 amps though... one obviously for the JL Sub then another amp kit for the component speakers... just the little Alpine one that sits behind the dash.

Deck - Alpine UTB-62BT
Supplemental Amp for component speakers - Alpine KTP 445A
Speakers - Focal P165V15 62" 2-Way Component Speakers
Sub - JL Stealth Box
Amp for sub - Arc Audio XDi650.1

All in I think I spent about $1800 with install. If including the Control Interface (Modifry) I'm at 1900 bucks...

I have an Alpine 62BT and the little KTP 445 - the universal one, in my dash. The amp is wired to the door speakers - bridged. I have stock speakers. Will this system drive those Morel speakers ok? I might do that upgrade this spring.

I also have an '01...I put them in front of the door handle. They fit nicely and aren't obtrusive with no chance of being hit or disturbed. It's clearly not the best spot for them, the A-pillar mentioned earlier would be the best option, I just didn't want them in my field of view, they're rather large.

Again, I only had my radio at 25/50 volume level and I had a headache after 5 minutes with the top up.

I'm not an expert by any means, I would assume 90w would push a pair of door speakers pretty good. I know they sound great with 100w.

I have a 400w amp dedicated to my front speakers. 2 ch component. Probably overkill but they sound great. Separate amp for my rear speakers. Only 100w. And a third zapco amp. 500w for my jl sub.

That is an amazing amount of money to spend on speakers. I have been in car audio for about 30 years now and there is definitely a point of diminishing returns. What I can say for sure is that the newest tech ie. neodymium magnets, External Voice Coil (EVC™), etc.

I personally am going with Crescendo PWX 6.5", Vifa Tweeters, 12" Memphis DVC sub, Aria Bass Shakers. Powered by amps all from the mid/late 1990's. Should be interesting once I get it all back together. Will definitely take pictures as it's built back up.
