Default Upgrading the Front Speakers FIrst

I have an 04. I want to upgrade the front speakers. I may not do anything else except put a sub and amp in later. What new speakers would be the best upgrade that is compatible with the factory HU.

You may want to reconsider the order of your upgrades. Any speakers that work well with the factory HU may not do well once you hook them up to an amp. If you use you stock HU as the base-point to build from, the speakers may be then over powered by a future amp install. And if you get speakers that will work well when properly amped, they could be very underpowered when driven by the stock HU.

Me, I would upgrade the HU first.

Plus there is another recent thread asking in a round about fashion the same info - i.e. bang for the buck upgrade path.

Since the stock HU power is about 15Wrms/ch or little less, you want to get high efficient front component iof 90dB or higher. The new for 2005 Infinity Reference REF6010CS may be what you want.

Specifications
MSRP U.S. $: 229.95
Power Handling, RMS: 90 Watts
Power Handling, Peak: 270 Watts
Sensitivity: 92dB
Frequency Response: 53Hz - 21kHz
Mounting Depth: mid/woofer 2-1/16"
Impedance: 4 Ohms

You can get one on Ebay for about $138 shipped from a good seller (99.9% positive feedbacks out of 1750 total)

But as Cathan said, good speakers for stock HU may not be as good as other speakers such as Infinity Kappa Perfect component with external amp.

Thanks for the help and great information, especially the sensitivity information that I need to pay attention to if I only upgrade the speakers. After doing a little more research, I have reluctantly just about decided that I may need to upgrade my HU first.

Headunit first. A new Headunit will make the stock 04 speakers sing.

Believe me, you will rethink getting new fronts if you are looking for a budget solution.
