Default USB vs interface boxes

Well my S was vandalized over the weekend and now I need a new head unit. I had a pioneer unit with the XM and ipod interface boxes. Seeing as I still have the interface boxes and I was happy with the pioneer's performance, I'll stay with pioneer for the time being. I know longevity isn't their strength (eh I'm happy if I get 4-5 years out of it). I use my ipod all the time.

My question is how much faster is the USB interface? The only time the ipod felt slow was when I was advancing songs a few at a time. Other than that, there wasn't a delay going from song to song.

I'm a little torn between the '06 deh-p780mp and the '07 deh-p690ub. I like the 5v of the 780, however I also like the price point of the 690 and I'm curious about the USB functionality. I have the s-pods (unistalled) and a bi-amp set up with a 10" (nothing serious-just be able to hear at highway speeds)

the new DEHP lines have a high speed ipod connection capability where you don't have to use an interface box , invest in one of those and the $30 cable from pioneer , local circuit citys have them or if you just wanna see a visual of what 'm talking about stop at one

The fullspeed/high speed cables are A LOT faster than control boxes. They are at LEAST 100% faster, and Alpine is a good 40% faster than Pioneer.

Thanks for the info NYC. I was looking at the new Alpine iDA-X001 and it looks very promising. I was looking through Alpine's website and it didn't mention this unit needing an XM tuner box. Does anyone know otherwise? Also can the modifry remote configured for a Pioneer be reconfigured for an Alpine?

you need the tuner box , and I dunno if modifry has one but I suggest getting the PAC one www.pac-audio.com because of it's programing , you can set up your buttons to do whatever you want them to instead of being limited by modifry
