VAFC Help...
Hey guys, I want to get a VAFC because everyone says that it gives you horsepower, or at least a flatter curve. But, how do you tune it? Does it come with a air/fuel gauge kind of thing and does it tell you how to set up the correct air/fuel values? Or do i need a dyno?
Thanks!
Thanks!
Several people on here have had their's tuned, and can just give you their settings. I am also going to be getting one within the next year. Check in the S2000 Talk forum, about a week ago someone wanted to know the settings. Someone else posted their entire setup, that (for MY00-01) boasted a +23 hp gain at the rear wheels above 8300 (because MY00-01 run so rich up top), and like ~+7 throughout the powerband. Good bang for the buck.
I will see if I cannot locate that thread (as I will also need it in the future).

Here is the thread:
VAFC thread
Look towards the end, and Kayvan Pour lists the settings for his MY01. He said it was not what he was running now, but should be aggressive, and safe, until you can get some dyno time. Kayvan seems to be pretty well respected, so I would trust him.

Be very careful using someone else's settings. Every engine is different in some way. I would recommend hitting the dyno to tune it once you have it. If you buy an adapter for it to put between the ECU and its harness then you can just pop it in once you get to the dyno.
You really shouldn't use someone else's settings.

Good to know. I thought MY00-01 ECU settings were uniform across the board. Therefore, I thought they would react the same under the same settings from a VAFC.
No biggie, I think someone said it would cost like $90 to get it tuned on the dyno. Does that sound about right?

Yeah you can use someone else's settings to install it and drive to the dyno, but they really need to be dyno tuned for each car. I know a friend of mine that had his car dyno tested and it was 9 hp stronger than my car, and my car is a strong one, and his is running stronger.
You never know. That's why each car has to be tuned to itself.

I picked one up on e-bay for something like $250 + shipping. Do yourself a favor though and buy a wiring harness. Life is so much easier when you can make proper solders outside of the car and then just snap in the harness. Also, when you get other electronics it makes is much easier to integrate them in.
If you're going to be messing w/ your car's fuel, IMO it would be crazy not to have some way to monitor your a/f. You can get it tuned perfectly but sometimes bad stuff just happens and I'd want to know if my a/f is deviating from what it's supposed to be. Cheap insurance for your motor.
