Default Very Disappointed with XM

I got the new roady2, hooked it up and I'm pissed. I had the sirius radio on the DISHNET Tv system here and really liked the content, so after looking at hardware and not seeing anything very good offered by sirius, I choose to go with XM. I'm going to dump the XM adn just take the loss.

Did anyone else find this ?

XM is vastly superior, sorry....

You will find that Sirius is extremely repetitive. So when you first turn it on, great, you hear some great tunes that you love. Then you hear them 500,000 times in a row, and you realize that it's pointless, you might as well have MP3s.

XM plays plenty of things that are familiar if you go to the right channels, but overall its depth and breadth are unmatched.

How long have you had it? What have you tried listening to? What exactly are your expectations?

I tend to stay with classic rock and all XM offered was two channels. And the second channel is pretty lame. Out of the three or so on Sirius, I've only heard the same song 'maybe' once or twice.

I have four XM subscriptions- one for each car and a Sky-fi, my wife and I both really enjoy the programming. It's about $30/month for all of 'em and I tend to spend more time with XM than I do with cable TV.

Dunno about what you listen to, I avoid channels that are like ordinary FM (classic rock/rap/country) like the plague. I listen to four or five of the rock channels- 44,47,48,53,54 they're pretty good. Used to listen to 42 (Liquid Metal) but they cancelled it, bastards. Mostly I listen to 48.

The Artist Confidential is pretty cool, they interview a singer and he/she plays music in front of a live audience. My wife really likes Lenny Kravitz and they just had him on the show and she really liked it.

Also listen to ESPN a lot and the new baseball channel. Can't wait for baseball season, I like to listen to Braves games around the pool and now I can ditch my AM boombox.

The jazz channels are great, 73 (Frank's place) and the 40s/50s channels are great when you have a "romantic evening" going on. I even listen to the reggae and latin channels sometimes for a variety.

Never have listened to the news or talk channels much.

Can't imagine what Sirius could have that's so much better than that. Some people are juiced up about Howard Stern but to be honest that guy played out in about 1995 and is now pretty much lame IMO. The ideal of NFL is kind of cool but who the hell wants to listen to a football game? Just watch it on TV, every bar in town has the NFL ticket so you can see whatever game you want.

I have listened to both quite a bit, and do feel that XM is superior to Sirius.

I don't think it's worth debating which is better. To me they are both very comparable. At the time I subscribed to Sirius, I wanted a Clarion deck and they only suported Sirius so that's what I went with. I don't share the opinions of those who slam the service and claim it's far inferior. I poked around XM quite a bit back when they allowed you to sample their content for free without registering on their website. I really didn't see any compelling reason to change my prefernce for HU just for the sat radio service.

To each his own...and by the way...who wants to listen to a baseball game? Why not just go to a sports bar

KarlO - Thanks for the write-up on XM though. Much more useful than just telling us Xm is better. Though I share you're thought, Sirius has all of that too...does that make XM better?

Lets be honest, they're competitors, they monitor each others' content. They change their content to keep pace with each other...the only way I can see one being better than the other is through quality of service. Does one broadcast with more power from the sats than the other?

sirius has a gay and lesbian channel so right there it should throw a flag....yuck...down with the dog... XM has much better program options and there comedy channels blow sirius out of the water...
