Default Viper 5901 or 5902

I was just wondering which of the two should i get? Would it really matter? Also how hard would it be to install the alarm. I have a shop that would install an alarm for me but i want to make sure that the job is done right. Also i dont want anyone to know where i put my wires and brain.

I have already done a search and found darksides DIY but was wondering how much of a difference it would be. I know the post is old.

really need to upgrade the security system.

Thanks in advance!

im sorry i cant be of much help, but from what i understand, its a pain to install these alarms. i also recommend you look into a compustar system if you havent done so yourself. i think its best to get an install from an authorized dealer as warranty issues can get taken care of if need be, good luck

I chose the 5901 and had it installed recently. It is a great alarm. The install is a pain. But it is supposed to be in some ways. The more hidden the brain the better. Expect the install to take anywhere between 4 and 6 hours and $125 - $200 to install. Mine took closer to 6 because we spend a good hour getting the calibrations right for the proximity sensor which for me is a MUST in a convertible. The range is great and I am very satisfied with my first Viper product.

Install is EVERYTHING with these alarms!!! I cant stress that enough and even the best install is only going to buy you afew more seconds to show up with lead.

Im not going to post the good places to hide the brain but just think this, the harder it is for the dousche bag to find then that gives you more time to react.

If you want this done right, youre looking at an all day job and over 1,000 for it to be done right... and if you dont do it right then just skip the alarm and leave the 500-600 in the center console for the thief.

Find a custom shop with a really good name and when filling out the paper work, DO NOT give them your actual home address.

I also cut off the manual over ride button, those are redicuously easy to defeat if and when found.

I went with the Clifford 50.7x with remote start. Since Directed Electronics makes Clifford as well as Viper. The Viper equivalent to the 50.7x is the 5902.
The only difference between the two is the shape of the remote.
I got the alarm after my seats were stolen. Im VERY pleased with it, It has so many great features. It has a manual transmission mode for remote start that makes it IMPOSSIBLE to remote start the car when its in gear, or if the ebrake is off. RS is great for this time of year
Also has a turbo timer if you are FI.
Go with the Clifford 50.7x or the Viper 5902

Thanks for the input. I had the 5901 in my civic and loved it but saw that they have a 5902. I was looking into the Clifford 50.7 also. Just have to see how things work out.

Has anyone installed any of these alarms? If you have what advice would you give?

Thanks!

Actually install these new Viper alarm is very easy! The pain is actually uninstall the previous old alarm on the car. I have done 3 so far gonna work on the 4th one soon.

I don't understand why ppl are so sensitive about their alarm brain location, there's only a few places you can put it... You know our car is actually really small; and if the theif really got to there, the rest of the car will be gone as well.

My suggestion to the best alarm brain location would be next to the passenger airbag.

The brain is the same between 5901 and 5902 so as Clifford as well so that means you can get 5901 now and buy the 5902 remote to upgrade later.

My tip would be spend most of your time preparing the viper alarm wire harness in your living room.

Check all the wiring colors, remove useless wires, solder wires the wires together that has the same connection point to your car to avoid confusion, change the polarity for the trunk pop at the alarm brain end, wrap the whole wire loom.

after the wire harness is prepared, then its just a matter of connecting 10ish wires, and securing the alarm brain.
