Default viper smartstart question

hi, I was wondering if I bought the smartstart system for my viper 5901, could I not use my iPhone to unlock/lock the car? I rather just keep using my remote that I already have, because it sounds like a pain to get out my phone, look for the app, and then finally unlock/lock it. I really only want the smartstart system because of gps, and smart alerts, that'll text or send push notifications to your phone from anywhere, instead of just 1 mile radius.

edit: I already searched and couldn't find anyone else that had this question, so if I missed it, I'm sorry

thanks in advance!

You can still use the remote if you add the SmartStart piece. It basically makes the phone an additional remote. You might as well use the phone app too since you'll be paying $50/yr for the SmartStart service anyway.

The remote gets pages much faster than the iPhone. I opted not to go with smartstart.

Yeah, but I just want the alerts from anywhere and gps basically, maybe unlock/lock my car if I'm out, left my car at home, and forgot to lock my car for some odd reason, but other than that I'd rather grab the remote in my pocket to unlock/lock it. but thanks, for answering my initial question though.

Yeah, but that's only if you're in range, so if I'm range I'd get the alert soon too since I would still carry the remote. but say I'm out of range, I'd still get the alert although maybe a little later, compared to not getting it until I got back into range.

If that $50/yr and the page anywhere alert gives you peace of mind, go for it. Also remember, if you don't have cell service, that application is completely useless.
