Default Volume button not working

So today while driving I was trying to increase the volume on my radio so I was pressing up on the button (the one next to the Start button) and then it just stopped and the button felt all stiff. It feels like something just got stuck/jammed in there.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance,
Aj

After running into the same problem and seeing there were no solutions to this, I thought id tear into the DCI and see what the culprit was. This is what I found.

After pulling the whole thing apart I noticed that there were these rubber tabs that poke through the DCI from the button in order to press the button on the circuit board:

as you can see these little suckers get crushed and stuck sideways:

Backside view:

as you can see, there is no way these can poke through.

Now at this point if you've taken the time to tear into the DCI, you may want to pop them out by separating the volume button and resetting them in place. This should work if the little plugs are in good condition just simply displaced. However more times than not, this is probably what you are going to see:

If the little boots are torn, you could try and reuse them but im not too sure how long they will last, I tried putting them back in and wiggling the button and they kept popping in and becoming displaced again.

In summary, if you have nothing better to do and dont mind tearing into the DCI, it is possible to fix it if you are lucky and your boots have not torn. If you would rather not, you might as well order a new DCI from a junkyard or Honda. Either way you will be dropping the steering colum and pulling the cluster trim.

Hope this is helpful, if you need more info feel free to PM me.
