Default Warning To Xm Or Sirius Owners!!!!

If you mount your antenna on the body of your car (UNDERSIDE OR TOPSIDE <UNDERSIDE ESPECIALLY>

CLEAN THAT AREA THOUROGHLY EVERY WEEK!!!

The magnet in the antenna pulls in metal deposits into your paint and will leave an antenna footprint in metal on your car. I had to clay bar mine out, thankfully it came off....

Just letting you guys know.....

I doubt this is what's happening, especially since you were able to get it out with claybar...are you sure it wasn't just dirt collecting under the antenna? Metal particles just don't shift in dry paint like that...you'd need a magnet the size of a building to create that kind of power...

Dude....I am positive......

The antenna is mounted on the underside of my trunk. Yesterday, when I was cleaning my car, i noticed 4 perfect petal shaped, equidistant metal ring/outline things on my trunk right where the antenna is....
I think it takes the metal from rain water and dust and pulls it in or something...

The magnet in these things is really strong.....

And I am sure it was the antenna because the petals ARE the same as the antenna's footprint.

Hope that helps....

Well now that's different than what you had originally posted.

There's plenty of ferous dust flying around...think about all of the brake pad dust that collects on the PLASTIC rear bumper. Add a large magnet and that stuff is going to stick as if it was 6th grade science class. But it isn't metal particles from your paint...

I used a magnetic mount on my 240sx for some time, it looked like a large cell phone antenna but was for uhf/vhf. There deffinately was a footprint from the antenna. Using a sheet of plastic under the base helps, I did this on my wife's new SUV when we went to palm springs, MX, not two way, there was no mark after 1200 miles. Otherwise I'de have been in deap "you know what". The cell phone like antenna will vibrate at speed and would cause worse dammage to the paint then my MX antenna I'm sure.
