Default what makes bigger difference in SQ, HU or speakers

what makes a bigger difference in overall sound quality and tighter bass (stock ones start buzzin & rattling like crazy when turned up)?? a new headunit with stock speakers, or stock HU driving aftermkt speakers? I'm not talking about LOUDER, but better sound..

Since you have a MY03, I vote for new HU with stock speakers. If you had a MY00-01, my answer might be different.

How about this? I've got an Alpine V12 and some Polk dB Coax speakers using the OEM radio. Will I notice a huge SQ difference by getting an aftermarket HU?

I hate to hijack the thread, but it seems as though ya'll have answered his question.

I would like to know the same, I have mbquart qsd 216's and a JLaudio 300/2. Are there any head units that work directly with the dash controls?

for a 2002 and later? HU
for 2001 and 2000? speakers

Incubus,

imo, even a basic good quality HU upgrade will definitely help an amp & speakers system (vs the OEM HU). the level of audible distortion will be noticably reduced. i've caught flack many times over this, but i do believe that a good HU source is critical if you're amping. the OEM HU is really not a sound quality performer... of course, i haven't heard the newest 2004/2005 units tho...

no aftermarket HU's work w/ the dash controls directly. many will work with a DCI (Dash Control Interface) of some sort. there are different DCI options several available, and they are listed extensively in the Electronics FAQ.

PJK3,

Thanks for the info. Does the pac swi-alp with the hardwire work with the s2000 dash control's or does it work from another source (remote), not using the factory controls? Which alpine hu's have the hardwire? Any help would be greattly appreciated.

Thanks

Jay

Go with the Modifry DCI. No lag, no issues with the IR, it just works and works and works. Great product

yes. DCI is great. I have a JVC dvd HU right now and it definitely makes it sound better due to having so much wattage compared to stock. But speakers will even be a bigger factor. IMHO you should do both if the budget allows it.
