what makes bigger difference in SQ, HU or speakers

I've very happy so far with my upgrade on my 2005, where I retained the OEM HU. It's feeding a PAC OEM-2 LOC, then to a Phoenix Gold Xenon 100.4 to power some Polk Audio Momo Carbon 6.5" components (straight wired, not bi-amping). It's loud, sounds good and I chose the Polk Audio MMC6500s for mid-bass, and man, they deliver! Since I'm not using the 2 rear channels of my amp (opted not to bi-amp), I'll be adding a sub here soon.
My real test will be to see how it sounds with the top down on the highway. That probably won't happen until next year in Seattle
