Anyone know who makes the mose sensitive 2 way component speakers? Preferably something greater than or equal to 93db????

Wow, you get above 93-94 dB and we're talking some pretty sensitive speakers. I can't make any recommendations offhand, but I'm curious as to why you want such sensitive stuff?

 

Well, I will be running the speakers with the stock head unit for a while, so the more sensitive speakers I get, the better...

Currently Im looking at the Focal Polyflex 165 H 2 way components (92.5 db)

 

I'm in the same situation. Want to upgrade from stock to components- but it will be awhile before I upgrade the head unit. Interested to see what you find out.

 

Blaupunkt Overdrive Series ODc65 are rated at 93 dB (no clue on sound quality though). Typical for a 6 1/2" component is 90-91 dB, as you probably found.

A 0.5 dB difference is barely perceptible to the ear, so you should consider sound quality before searching for an extra 0.5 dB of sensitivity. Also, the stock head unit amp probably can't push any speakers, even 93dB rated ones, past 105 dB or so without major distortion. Save your pennies for a while and get an amp right away if you really want the volume needed for high speed cruising. A good solution might be to hunt down a "cheap" 30x2 and wire it at the same time as you do your speakers, then swap amps for a good 50x2 (or whatever you want) when you have the $$$.

The disadvantage to these (other than the size for the bigger models) is they are only mid- and high-range components...you would still need an efficient low-range speaker.

 

they would be pretty interesting for tweeters though! just no place to mount them. at the smallest size, approx 5" x 2.5" space. creative ideas?

Low range HDLC's do exist, but size usually restricts them to home audio apps. They work great with low power tube amps.
