Whats the best suited MTX amp for these subs ?
I have a pair of MTX thunder 8000 subs model # T8128, they are the 8 ohm versions and I wanted to know what MTX amp is best suited for them. I was at visions electronics and asked the guy and he said your sub is a dual voice coil and will require a two channel amp. Now I dont know much about this stuff but it does not look like a dual voicecoil to me, as far as I know it has a 2.5 inch 4 layer voicecoil, a 102 ounce magnet and peak power of 1000 watts and 400 watts RMS if I remember correctly. Keep in mind these are not the new style ones, they are from 2001 but never got used. I was looking at D class monoblock amps and he said no I need a two channel amp cause its a dual voicecoil. Now after the bit of research that I have done, it looks to me like the 801 D or the 1501 D amps by MTX are what I should be looking for. Could someone please point me in the right direction, any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks,
Ryan.

Although I am not an expert on this stuff......
First of all...you can tell if your sub is dual v. coil if you see 2 sets of terminals....total of 4.
Also, you do NOT need a 2 channel amp to run a DVC sub. You can use mono amps.....just certain ones....It must be wired in the proper ohm config...which not all amps are suitable.....but in your case...you want an 4ohm load....shouldnt be a problem.

as best i see, these aren't a DVC sub.... you will want to wire these 2 SVC subs up in parallel to obtain a 4 ohm total load, then plan to buy an amp that will run at least 500 Wrms @ 4 ohms mono and at most 900 Wrms @ 4 ohms mono. a 2 channel amp could be used if it was 2 ohm stereo stable or 4 ohm mono stable and was capable of outputing 500 Wrms - 900 Wrms @ 4 ohms.
and as an aside:

mono amps will work fine and 2 channel amps bridged to mono will often work fine... you just need to be sure you have the proper wiring configuration and that the amp is stable to the appropriate wiring resistance (impedance).
edit:
and to answer your question... if you wish to run a MTX amp for these -- current models that will work would be:
MTX Thunder1501D
MTX Thunder942

Thanks for clarifying everything for me, yeah the 1501 D and the thunder 942 are what I am looking at and I am leaning towards the 942 cause with a 4 ohm load bridged its 700 watts RMS and the two subs are 800 watt RMS combined so that should do nicely
