I do prefer the Alpine CDA-9835, but after looking into it on crutchfield, "Important Note: The powerful output of Alpine's V-Drive internal amplifier requires a direct fused connection to your vehicle's battery! We recommend that you purchase a 10-gauge amp wiring kit."

I found out crutchfield stated that for all alpine decks to require to run a new line to the battery, and since i am planning to install everything myself, running a new line could be some what difficult since i am still an amateur, is that true for any of you that currently owns an alpine deck? especially the 2004 line of models? Is there any other complications that y'all had run into during installation?

Also how do you know if a deck is compitible with the DCI module? for example Kenwood Excelon KDC-X679, i know it comes with an wireless remote, so should I just assume that DCI will work with all kenwood decks?

thanx

That's interesting. I installed a 9831 and didn't put in a direct fused connection to the battery. It's working just fine. For my money the 9831 was the best bang for the buck, but if you've got more bucks than I to throw around go a couple of steps up.

For my alpine 9833, I just used the stock wires for power; I did not bother to run a seperate 10 gauge wire for the HU. It works perfectly.

This has been discussed before. The VDRIVE amp pulls enough juice that it can use a direct line to the battery. It will work fine however, with a regular harness connection.

Running a line from the battery is pretty easy, there is a hole in the firewall right behind the battery that you poke a wire through, thread it along the back of the passenger footwell, and whammo you are at the HU. When I did the HU only I put a fused connection inside the engine compartment, and that connection had a ring on the line on the other side - I undid the bolt on the + connection for the battery, then slid the bolt through the ring and into the battery terminal. Oh, you also want to run a 10ga line for the GROUND to some random bolt on the chassis.

I would not recommend using the stock harness if you plan on getting the most power out of your HU. The think to keep in mind is that power in = power out. If you want more power out, then you want more power from the battery in, right?

OTOH, if you are going to run an amp instead, you can turn off the amp inside the HU and stock power will do just fine.

Okay, I am pretty much set my heart on the alpine cda-9831, but does anyone know if the deck will work with the DCI module?

If you mean Modifry's DCI unit, then yes. That is exactly what I have set up. Works like a charm with the radio door open or closed.

Just don't try to close the radio door if you have the faceplate in any of its tilted positions.

Regarding the Alpine CDA-9835.........Internal Power Supply:

You can go into the set up menu and disable the internal amplifier / power supply of the 9833 & 9835.

So if you are planning on connecting the Head Unit to an external amplifier........using the stock wiring harness is just fine.

I have never had a problem. Nor did I have to run an additional power wire of any kind.

If you are not planning on adding an amp......adding the heavier guage power wire might be a good idea..........but is probably not an absolute must.

Either way adding the wire is very easy.....as "Oatnet" said.....there is a rubber nipple directly behind the battery that accesses the inside of the cab........simply push a wire through.....cut it to length........& connect it to the HU.......a very easy process.
