Always used kenwood here without any problems.

I've always been a big fan of Kenwood. I like Alpines as well, but I just stay with what I know. I just recently put in the KDCX859 in my S.

I like Clarion also. I have an old deck (5930 - pre amp only model, I believe this was also one of the first with the swinging front face) that I was going to put into my S, but it does not support MP3 and I want Modifry's remote audio control unit so I will probably go with a Sony for the S2000.

Alpine and Panasonic. I've got a Panasonic G Shock in my work truck and we beat the crap out of it on dirt roads; it has never, ever skipped, even with some teeth chipping ruts.

The stock head unit, why?
I've owned 4 vehicles in my life time and two of them had top of the line head units, and were broken into because of them. With my last two cars I've kept the stock unit and spent the extra money on speakers, subs and amps. I haven't had any problems with people breaking into my car for the stereo, and it's nice freaking my friends out with a stock unit that sets car alarms off.

that's actually very clever! i've never had a head unit stolen, but when i do i might just throw the oem back in and add an amp.
