Arrow Where to put my Neo iOn?

So I installed the Neo iOn and it works lovely. I can control everything via the HU, driver's controls, or the iPod itself. The only issue I ran into was trying to put it behind the radio. There's just no way it could fit. Underneath the radio is a box that says 'SRS something something' on it so I'm assuming its for the airbag. I have it sitting in that little pocket on the left-hand side of the passenger area and I don't really mind it sitting there. My question is, if I were to push it beyond the pocket so it's not as visible, how would I attach it? It came with a few screws, but I don't have much experience in this area so I don't want to just go hog wild with a drill.

Also, a side question. When plugging in my Neo to the radio, I had to unplug something else to plug it in. There's a spot for a wide blue plug and a tiny white one. I replaced the tiny white one. Is the factory white plug just a dead plug? Everything seems to work fine (am, fm, cd) with just the blue plug.

Thanks in advance for your advice.

I also have my ion fitted in the left pocket area, and it doesn't bother me at all. You may want to just keep it there since it has an extra auxiliary input, in the event you want to use an mp3 player other than the ipod.

And I believe that thing you had to unplug is for the XM radio because our '06 s2ks are 'prewired' for satellite radio. But someone correct me if I'm wrong.

It fits under the radio... it takes some finesse, but it works. You have to line up all the wires correctly and it fits in next to the SRS box. I forget exactly how I aligned mine (its been a while) but it will fit. I then ran the Ipod wire underneath the center console pad and out behind the seat. My Ipod sits under the seat just behind the "hump" so it is easy to get to, doesnt take up any storage space, but is out of sight when I park.

You shouldnt have to uplug anything unless you have a factory CD changer or XM.

I don't know how long the wires are for the neo, but I have my iPod interface box mounted all the way behind the passenger seat (behind the vented panel) just because the actual iPod cable they included was so short.

You might try mounting the Neo under the passenger side dash (behind the panel that looks like a place that a glove box should be.)

Not necessary, the Neo wire to the Ipod is about 10 ft long and the box WILL fit under the radio.

My box is behind the SRS box and the wires run through the center console. The plug comes out in the glove box (no holes to cut or modifications necessary). The iPod is nestled in the elastic attachment in the glovebox.

Very clean install (if I do say so myself!)

I've installed two systems like this. Cleanest/easiest IMHO.

I ran the power wire & the iPod control unit wire under the center console (almost parallel to the parking brake cables). The wires slipped under the glovebox, and came out behind the passenger seat (in the vented panel area.) There is a plethora of free space behind that vented panel, both on the passenger side and the driver side. I hide the control unit back there.

After disassembling the iPod control unit, I drill out a 1/4" hole in the back of the glove box, slipping the iPod connection wire through it. (I disassemble the control unit to allow the smallest drilled hole possible) The iPod (a nano in both cases) sits securely under the small elastic band in the glove box door.

I imagine there's room behind the stereo, but considering most people deposit the actual iPod in the glove box anyway, I don't understand why you'd suffer the headache of aligning cables in the cramped quarters behind the HU.

I had my ion installed at bestbuy - no idea where they put it, but I haven't seen it since

There might be more room behind an '05 HU, maybe?

I was able to pull the wire through the hinge in the glovebox door. No drilling involved. You might look into that for future installs.

It's hard to see in the pics. If you do this you should secure the wire to the back of the door, otherwise it tends to want to stick out when you close the door.
